“She is the manifestation of the Sea and its dark depths. All who enter her waters become her worshipers, all who sink to the dark depths are her devoted. Beware her siren’s call, for once you enter her domain, there is no coming back.”
This is part of a larger project that I was commissioned for; a full pantheon of gods was to be designed and made for a video game. The client was looking for something akin to the Greek pantheon but wanted them to be more unnerving, much like the Elder gods of Lovecraftian lore. As you can imagine, finding this balance was a bit of a struggle, as these characters needed to be recognizable; without being so out there that they would break someone’s psychic by just looking at them. As most of Lovecraft’s horrors are based out of the sea and what dwells within. The Goddess of the Sea was possibly by far the easiest to adapt to these needs.
